What does PseudoLife mean?

Pseudo means Fake.
Life is somewhat obvious.
False-Life is a good description of anything happening on the internet.

Why do you run a website with no purpose?

The website is mostly a toy for me. I had once intended to run a real blog or even mini-social network for my friends and I here. Of course none of that really happened. Places like FaceBook do that far better. Eventually I had to admit this site has no real use. I've been messing around with it for about a decade now, so I've gotten use to it, even if it doesn't serve a purpose. I have no intention of giving it up anytime soon.

Why do you have a membership system?

I have content on this website that I don't want accessible to everyone. Some of it out of respect for my friends. I have a lot of personal photos on the site, and some of them are of my friends and family. I wouldn't want to assume that all those photos should be openly available to anyone that wanders by the site.
More then that, some of the content isn't especially professional, and shouldn't be visible to my coworkers. Some of it is downright odd and I don't want my parents seeing it or reading it, and some of it very personal, and I don't want people I fully trust yet to be able to read or look at it. By having a membership system, I can make accounts for friends, coworkers, and family which will let them see what I think they should have access to, and hide everything else.
The site assumes that anyone that doesn't have an account should only see basic content, and not the full size images of anything they can see.
